Coffee can bandit hits Aurora bank

Aurora police and the FBI are searching for a man who held up a downtown Aurora bank Tuesday morning with a coffee can.

According to police, the suspect entered the Fifth Third Bank, 34 S. Broadway Ave., at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday and displayed a note that demanded money and implied he had a weapon.

Police said the teller placed an undisclosed amount of cash into a coffee can the suspect was carrying and the man left the bank on foot. Witnesses last saw him running northbound on Broadway Avenue to an adjacent parking lot where he drove away in a newer model blue pickup truck, He drove northbound through the lot to eastbound Galena Boulevard.

The suspect was described as a 30- to 40-year-old male with a medium to large build, with short, light brownish hair and a "scruffy" beard. He was also wearing dark sunglasses, a white, collared shirt with orange stripes and bluejeans.

No bank security camera footage was available Tuesday.

FBI officials said late Tuesday that they are not yet able to determine if the suspect could be an area serial bank robber.

No one was injured in the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at (630) 505-5755.
