Park board OKs master plan
Naperville Park District commissioners have approved an Open Space and Recreation Master Plan. The plan analyzes the park district's current facilities and lays out goals and guidelines for the next 10 years. Park district staff has said there is a shortage of trails, playgrounds and indoor recreation spaces. Commissioner Ron Ory was the lone no vote, saying the plan lacks clear objectives.
Aurora police crack down
A recent traffic enforcement effort by Aurora police resulted in 96 citations and 45 warnings issued to motorists. Three people also were arrested, one of whom was charged with a felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The traffic effort concentrated on accident-prone locations in the city, including stretches of Route 59, Eola Road, East New York Street and Farnsworth Avenue. Most of the citations were for speeding.
Hospital donates to Winfield
Central DuPage Hospital has announced that hospital officials will be donating $100,000 in each of the next three years to aid community groups and municipal agencies in Winfield. Among the groups receiving funding will be the Winfield Park District, which will use the donation for new fitness equipment, Winfield Elementary District 34, which will purchase new handwashing station and heart-rate monitors, and the Winfield Emergency Management Agency, which plans to purchase uniforms.
Logo design contest
The village of Carol Stream is looking for entries from local artists to help brand the community's 50th anniversary celebration next year. The deadline to submit entries is Sept. 26 and the contest is open to all Carol Stream residents or employees of a business within the village. The village will judge the entries for creativity, originality, use of color and consistency with its anniversary theme. All entries must incorporate the number "50" as well as "Carol Stream" in its design. Applicants can submit images to administration@carolstream.org.
