Briefs: Indian Trail Beach still closed

Indian Trail Beach in Lake in the Hills remained closed Friday due to high E-coli levels, officials said. The McHenry County Health Department on Friday retested the water and will release the results Saturday. Authorities will at that point decide whether to reopen the beach, which has been closed since Thursday.

The Neighbors of South East Elgin and the Midwest Midwest Dachshund Rescue will co-host Elgin's eighth annual Unity Fest from noon to 6 p.m. today at Drake Field, on Hastings Street two blocks east of Route 25. The event, which is open to the public, will feature weiner dog races, hand-walked pony rides, children's games and entertainment, a wildlief demonstration, door prizes, bingo for adults, picnic faire, pet rescue organizations, a pet communicator and much more.

Outage shuts county offices

Most McHenry County governmental offices closed at 2 p.m. Friday because of an electrical outage at both the county government center and administration building in Woodstock. Plans were to keep county court proceedings on schedule using backup generators, but all county offices unrelated to courts and law enforcement shut down. The outage occurred about 11 a.m. when a transformer near Route 47 in Woodstock failed, reportedly when struck by a fallen tree.

Dancers to wash cars

The Dundee-Crown High School Dance Team is washing cars to raise money for new uniforms. The dance team will be at Wright Wash, 1520 East Algonquin Road, Algonquin from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The team will accept donations. Call (847) 809-6448.

Pingree tunes up Sundays

Pingree Grove is all about live music every Sunday through July 27 at Centennial Park on Reinking Road. Performances begin at 6 p.m. Call Cathie Vavra, the village's events coordinator, at (224) 659-4747.
