Make an effort to adopt an animal
Please think about adopting an animal from a local shelter or rescue.
Currently, all of the shelters, animal control facilities, and rescues in Illinois are drowning in dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.
Normally, this time of year shelters are full anyway, especially with puppies and kittens, but due to the economic slowdown and the recent flooding it is awful. No one wants to euthanize unless they have to, but unfortunately because of the numbers this is going to be the case for numerous animals.
Also please spay/neuter your pets.
The number of puppies and kittens arriving at shelters is unbelievable.
There is no room anywhere.
You can check your local Petsmart or PETCO for adoption events every weekend by local groups. You can go on www.petfinder.com and do a search for animals up for adoption in your local area.
There is a coalition group called Illinois Animal Rescue at www.illinoisanimalrescue.org.
This is a good way to start finding an adoptable animal in Illinois. Each person doing something small, i.e., giving money to nonprofit animal rescues and shelters, fostering, volunteering your time, and helping with transport of these animals can make a major difference.
