Lessons learned on global warming

With the first major legislative debate on global warming behind us after the defeat of the Climate Security Act, it is time to learn some lessons.

While the bill was a good testing ground for gauging our leaders' commitment to ending the most pressing environmental crisis of our time, the reality is it would have been inadequate to solve the full scale of the problem.

Now we have an opportunity to pause and consider what legislation capable of really dealing with the problem would look like. Both the long and short views must be taken with global warming - simultaneous initiatives with future payoffs like alternate energy sources.
