Schaumburg girl gives autism foundation a boost
Your June 25th article on the front page of the Neighbor Section about the 10-year-old Schaumburg girl who won a free lemonade stand through a radio contest (on WLIT FM 93.9) to raise money for charity proved to be very effective.
Erin Kelly was allowed to set up her lemonade stand at the Hoffman Estates Craft Fair on June 28-29, collecting nearly $1,000 that will be donated to the Autism Society of America. We would like to thank all those that helped make this event a success.
The article sparked tremendous interest from the patrons of the craft fair who were incredibly generous in giving to the cause. Erin was also interviewed by WLIT morning host Melissa Forman, which also brought additional donations. The outpouring of support for Erin's cause is nothing short of amazing.
Apparently, many radio listeners were interested in donating to the cause and, at the suggestion of WLIT, Erin established a post office box though which additional donations can be sent to further her crusade to raise money to help cure Autism and support families coping with Autism.
Erin's 7-year old brother, Jason, who has autism, is the inspiration for her efforts. We would like to encourage anyone who desires to donate to this worthy cause to send donations to Erin - 100 percent of the money collected will go to the Autism Society (some to the local chapter and some to the national chapter). No amount is too small. The success of last weekend's event proves that when many people offer a tiny bit, the results can be significant.
Checks should be made out to the Autism Society of America and sent to Erin Kelly, 1425 W. Schaumburg Road #116, Schaumburg, IL 60194.
Thanks to the Daily Herald Newspaper, reporter Eileen Daday and everyone who generously gave of themselves to make this a success.
Erin will be selling her lemonade at 50 cents a cup one more day - at our local Jewel Food Store at Barrington and Schaumburg Roads in Schaumburg. The date set is July 20. We hope to see you there!
