Nothing misleading about Web site
I am writing in response to the Batavia parents protesting the library link to a Planned Parenthood site for teens. I have a master's degree in human physiology and Kerry Knott is simply not telling the truth when she says, "There's no way teens can look at this and get accurate information."
This group of parents obviously has an agenda of their own. There is nothing misleading about the Web site. These folks are either woefully ignorant of the facts or don't believe teens should know them. I saw nothing inaccurate nor did the site promote abortion or any type of sexual behavior. It addresses a variety of topics in a nonjudgmental straightforward manner that teens could understand.
Parents like these are the reason that teens need access to sites like this and sex education in the classroom. I would be interested in knowing how many of these folks have talked to their children openly and honestly about any of the information on this Web site. More likely they just said don't do it.
I can only presume that this group is anti-choice and likely homophobic as the Web site does discuss abortion and homosexuality. While this limited group of taxpayers may believe they have a say in what the library is promoting, the assumption seems to be that the library is promoting abortion and deviant behavior when the reality is that they are promoting education and options that these folks would rather block access to.
