Christ Lutheran Church: The church in Vernon Hills has moved to summer worship hours through Labor Day. Community Protestant Church, United Church of Christ: The church at 418 N. Prairie Ave., Mundelein, will host its annual Red, White and Blue Ice Cream Social from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 6 on the church grounds at the corner of Hawley and Prairie - a perfect spot to watch the Mundelein Days Parade. Grace Lutheran Church: For the rest of the summer, until Sept. 7, there will be only one service at 9:30 a.m. with Summer Promiseland for children, ages preschool to sixth grade, each Sunday following the children's message. Coffee fellowship will follow worship. Traditional worship will be offered on the first and third Sundays of each month. Contemporary worship will be offered on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Holy Communion is offered on the first and second Sundays of the month. Holy Cross Lutheran Church will hold a Day Camp for grades 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 14 -18. Everyone is welcome to this program which ends at noon July 18. Registration forms are available in the church office. Registration fee for day camp is $55 per child.

Holy Cross Vacation Bible School for Preschoolers (ages 3-5) will also be held July 14 -18. A "Rain forest Adventure" for preschoolers, will begin at 9 a.m. each day and end at 11:15 a.m. The adventure will include opening worship, stories and activities, arts and crafts, and more. Ivanhoe Congregational Church, United Church of Christ: Traditionally each summer, friends and members move outside to worship and enjoy the beauty of summer. Lindenhurst Trinity UMC: The United Methodist Women of Lindenhurst Trinity United Methodist Church is hosting its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 11 and from 8 a.m. to noon July 12. St. John Ev. Lutheran Church: Open registration is under way. St. Mary of the Annunciation Roman Catholic church: The 34th Annual Pork and Corn Roast will be held Aug. 2-3.

St. Peter UCC: The church at 47 Church St., Lake Zurich, will be offering Rainforest Adventure vacation Bible school from 9:30 a.m. to noon the week of July 28 to Aug. 1. VBS donations are $15 per child and $10 for each additional child, with a maximum donation per family of $25. Summer Film Series with the theme of redemption continues from 7-10 p.m. July 11, featuring the movie "The Painted Veil." Screenwriter Michael Chatlien will talk about some aspect of the movie and then lead a discussion about it.

Faith Lutheran Church: The Zach Taylor Memorial Playground Project will accumulate the resources and construct a sizable playground area on the grounds of Faith Lutheran Church of Antioch's new campus at the corners of Grass Lake Road and Route 59.

In February 2007 a tragic winter auto accident took the life of 8-year-old Antioch resident Zachary Taylor and the lives of his aunt, Brandy Taylor, and his cousin, Nikki Taylor. This memorial project is meant to honor the memory of this bright and energetic young man whose life brought joy to so many others.

The funding goal of phase one of this multiphase project is $35,000. Through the generosity of Zach's friends and family more than half this goal is already accumulated. Construction of phase one will begin when this goal is reached. Everyone is welcome to consider a contribution to the Zach Taylor Memorial Playground Project. Faith Lutheran Church, Route 59 and Grass Lake Road in Antioch, offers a free vacation Bible school that is just a little different. Once again "A Summer Night Out" will be offered on four Friday evenings - July 18, 25, Aug. 1 and 8 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The intention is that mom and dad can leave the kids with us and enjoy a couple of hours for dinner, take a walk or just have a quiet conversation while the children ages 3 through fourth grade enjoy a couple of hours of crafts, music, snacks, Bible lessons and activities. On Aug. 8 Michael Schroeder, a Christian musician, will be the special music conductor. At 7 p.m. Aug. 9, a free concert will be offered at which the children are invited to sing "back up" on a few of the songs.

Immanuel Church: The church at 2300 Dilleys Road, Gurnee, offers summer camps for children. All kids currently in kindergarten through fourth grade are invited to the first SportsLife Camp, from 5:15-8:30 p.m. July 28-31. SportsLife Camps provide a week of sports, art, and fun. The coaches will lead campers in street hockey, soccer, cheerleading, or an arts extravaganza. Other options include the obstacle course, Frisbee golf, break dancing, and slip and slide. Living Waters Church: The Grayslake church is offering a free sports camp for kids preschool age through fifth grade. At Game Plan Mega Sports Camp, kids can pick between several different sports tracks, including basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and cheerleading. It doesn't matter if they have played sports their entire lives or just started yesterday, Mega Sports Camp helps kids improve their skills. Between sports sessions, coaches lead in songs, stories and do cool object lessons that help character building themes take hold in children's hearts. St. Stephen Lutheran Church: The church at 1155 Hillside in Antioch presents Rain forest Adventure vacation Bible school July 28-Aug. 1. From 9 a.m.to noon, kids in preschool through fifth grade are invited to come and learn Bible stories through music, crafts, games, snacks, drama, and science experiments. Registration is going on now at the church, which is "up on the hill" just south of Route 173 off Route 59 in Antioch. The United Protestant Church of Grayslake: A new Sunday summer worship schedule at United Protestant Church of Grayslake will run through Sept. 7, with only a single Sunday morning worship service at 9:30 a.m.

New this summer, Christian education for all ages will be held after the 9:30 service, beginning at 10:45 a.m. Carol Roselli-Rasmussen, director of Christian education, will lead a summer adult education class using the book "The Jesus Priorities."

And for the third summer at UPC, Senior Pastor David Russell will devote four August Sundays to movie themes in addition to biblical messages.

"Sunday at the Movies" begins Aug. 10 with "Star Wars IV: A New Hope" and the theme "The Power of the 'Force.'" On Aug. 17, the film "August Rush," starring Robin Williams, will be explored, along with the theme "The Need to Connect." On Aug. 24, "The Great Debaters," starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker, will explore the theme "There is Hope for Justice." The series concludes with the baseball movie "Field of Dreams" and the theme "Without Vision?"

The Highland Park Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter: A benefit barbecue for Hadassah Medical Organization will be held at 5:30 p.m. July 27 at a beautiful home in Lake Forest. Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Synagogue will celebrate the summer skies at a special Sabbath worship service and stargazing program at 7 p.m. July 11 at Ryerson Woods Forest Preserve in Riverwoods. All are welcome to meet outside Ryerson Woods' Brushwood Estate. "Shabbat and the Stars" is an opportunity to combine worship with nature. Services will be outdoors under the setting sun. Following services, join the Skokie Valley Astonomers Organization for a presentation on the Summer Skies and then gaze upward through telescopes at the summer constellations.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church: A new group of "twenty-somethings" is meeting at local hot spots once a month to socialize and discuss questions of faith in a peer setting. This group is an opportunity to make friends and support each other as "growing disciples of Jesus."
