Rush's Morgan named AFL's top rookie

Chicago Rush wide receiver Donovan Morgan has been named the Arena Football League's Rookie of the Year, the AFL announced Thursday.

Morgan (6-2, 195, Louisiana-Lafayette), finished the season as Chicago's leading receiver, catching 113 passes for 1,300 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also led all rookies in receptions and receiving yards, while finishing second among rookies in TDs.

"We all are very proud of Donovan," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "He is a gifted player and a dedicated teammate who has worked hard for his success. His determination to be great has made me a better coach and has helped the Rush become a legitimate championship contender."

Morgan joined the Rush this season after stints with the NFL's Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans and New York Jets. He is the first Rush player to win the league's Rookie of the Year award.

The Central Division champion Rush (11-5) hosts the Grand Rapids Rampage (7-10) in an AFL Divisional Round playoff game Sunday at 2 p.m.
