Death of Mount Prospect 20-year-old under investigation
Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office were offering no insight this afternoon as to the cause of death of a 20-year-old Mount Prospect woman whose body was found Sunday morning in a car parked outside the Prospect Heights Public Library.
Prospect Heights police are conducting a death investigation, but don't know at this point if any crime has been committed, said Deputy Chief Eric Lundt. Gina Dominick, of the 200 block of Emerson St., was found about 10:30 a.m. by a passerby who was in the neighboring park. The passerby called 911 and the fire department was the first to respond. Police don't know how long she was there and Lundt said he didn't know where the body was in the car.
Lundt said police are awaiting results of an autopsy. The Cook County medical examiner's office said that the autopsy has been completed but that they are awaiting more information from police the police investigation to determine the cause of death.
Police have been talking to library employees and residents to learn more about what happened.
Dominick's family declined comment. Dominick was a former student at Prospect High School.
Police tape lined the perimeter of the parking lot of at the library at 12 N. Elm. St. today. The library opened on time at 10 a.m. and library officials said it would be open during normal hours. Library officials declined to comment on the incident. The library is located across the street from the park district in a wooded area and a berm hides the parking lot from nearby houses.
The Major Case Assistance Team, which handles homicide cases for several northwest suburban police departments, is aiding the investigation.
