'Regulations for the Rubbish' in Wheaton

How many greenbacks did it take to produce and mail the slick, glossy, four-color brochure about the new garbage services in Wheaton?ˆ  Jesse White has his "Rules of the Road" and now Wheaton has its "Regulations for the Rubbish." Jesse's booklet looks like a "Dick and Jane" primer compared to the new "Garbage, Recycling, Yard Waste" manual with its multiple instructions and requirements.

We can envision ourselves staggering down our driveway with our copy of the Veolia brochure and our bathroom scale in hand to see if we have exceeded the 50-pound limit for our cans. We'll be in weekly fear of receiving a DUI citation (Disposing with Utter Irritation).

We applaud the city of Wheaton and its desire to encourage residents to do more recycling. But we wish it could be done more simply and enjoyably.ˆ  Also, why wasn't the Veolia brochure printed on recyclable paper, saving money and some of the environment?
