A great event for all war veterans

It was a wonderful job to invite all the honor roll veterans of many wars to a banquet while "support your troops" was going on.

The food was a delight and the atmosphere great -- the place to meet old friends and make new ones -- with the war going on now and all the veterans as brothers and sisters in sharing and caring for our troops over in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We also would like to thank our next congresswoman, Jill Morgenthaler, running for 6th District against Roskam who has done nothing for the veterans. Jill has spent 30 years in service and has spent time in Iraq and knows what's going on there.

We also had state Sen. Michael Noland there talking to the troops, too, the veterans of many wars. Jill went table to table to meet the men and women who served their country.

I talked with some troops that were there for the "support your troops" show, and they were telling me that many are worried about when they come home there will be nothing for them. I think we should give them 100 percent benefits, including a card that they would carry, allowing them to go to any hospital when they need help, instead of traveling 150 to 200 miles to a VA hospital.

It's time we start thinking of our troops, not just on Memorial Day or Flag Day. America wake up, they are fighting for you.
