Older people have done great things

I was absolutely outraged by a Fence Post letter (May 31) from a Mr. Sulla about Sen. McCain's age and the contention that it would adversely affect the senator's performance in office.

What gross insensitivity to every American senior citizen.

Grandma Moses began painting at age 76 and finished her last big canvas at age 101.

Verdi wrote "Falstaff" at age 80.

Nelson Mandela became South Africa's president at age 76.

Benjamin Franklin was 70 when he was selected for the Declaration of Independence committee and invented bifocals in his late 70s.

What about Clint Eastwood, who is still producing mega-hits at the age of 78 and who looks like he won't be slowing down any time soon either?

Time magazine estimated that at least half of the world's scientific geniuses are currently over the age of 75.

And who does Sulla want elected? A guy and a party that voted four times to raise energy taxes. A guy and a party that won't allow drilling in the U.S.

Who is this guy, Obama?

He promises a lot of "change" in every speech. He needs a thesaurus he uses the word "change" so much. And, what change to America?

Everyone wants to come here (even illegally), everyone wants our type of freedom, we are the envy of the world no matter what anyone says.

And Obama wants to "change" this? Based on what? His vast experience? From friends like Wright? Pfleger? American-haters like Bill Ayers? Bernadine Dohrn? His 130 "present" votes in the Ilinois Senate? His non-existent record in both the Illinois and U.S. senates?
