Kirk record strong on environment
In recent weeks, Dan Seals has persistently tried to tarnish Congressman Mark Kirk's record on environmental issues.
His criticisms highlight how little he understands our congressman's policies and the needs of the 10th District.
In reality, the environment is the last thing Dan Seals should be criticizing Kirk on.
Kirk has advanced legislation in Congress to address the growing concerns about invasive species and pollution in Lake Michigan and preserve the rivers and beaches in our own district.
He voted for legislation to raise corporate average fuel efficiency standards and prevent the opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for drilling.
In 2006, the Chicago Tribune called Kirk one of the most intelligent members in the House. His outstanding leadership on environmental matters proves how right the Tribune was.
The environmental movement recognizes Kirk as well. The League of Conservation Voters gave Kirk a rating of 90 percent, higher than Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Despite these strong marks, Seals loves to cast Kirk in the same mold as the rest of the Republican Party and ignore the fact that they actually agree on many environmental issues.
Where they truly differ is the difference that they have made for the environment.
Seals has a handful of sentences devoted to the environment on his Web site; Kirk has worked for environmental causes for eight years in Congress.
