Briefs: Gun threat reported

Two Aurora boys, ages 13 and 15, told police that two men pointed a handgun at them about 1:30 p.m. Thursday as they and a group of their friends were in a driveway on the 400 block of Weston Avenue. The men did not fire the handgun and no one was injured. The suspects were driving a light blue, Buick Regal at the time of the incident.

New athletic director hired

The West Chicago High School District 94 school board has hired Douglas Mullaney as its athletic director. Mullaney most recently worked as a teacher at Bryan Middle School in Elmhurst, where he served as the school's physical education chairman. He has coached several sports at both the high school and college level. As head baseball coach at York High School, Mullaney lead his team to the Illinois state title in 1993. Mullaney will begin working at West Chicago High School on Tuesday.

'American Girl' star in town

Eleven-year-old Madison Davenport, who plays alongside Abigail Breslin in the new movie "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" will be meeting with fans Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hollywood Boulevard Cinema, 1001 W. 75th St., Woodridge. Fair talent entry due

Anyone under the age of 21 with a talent they believe is entertaining must have their entry to the DuPage County Fair talent contest postmarked by Monday. There are two categories: 14 years and younger and between 15 and 21. The winner in each category will proceed to competition at the Illinois State Fair.
