No misconduct charges against ex-Huntley schools superintendent
A former Huntley schools superintendent will not be charged with official misconduct, Huntley police said Thursday.
Authorities said former District 158 Superintendent Steve Swanson gave himself and three former administrators paid vacation days without board approval.
"Although there may have been some violations of school district policy, no one involved in the investigation committed a crime," Huntley Police Chief John Perkins said.
Swanson approved the benefit because a salary freeze was in effect during the 2004-05 school year, and he and the employees had worked extra hours, police said.
The district says it paid Swanson and the administrators $19,619.75 for the unused vacation days when they left the district.
But police said Swanson did not have "criminal intent" to deceive the school board when he approved the benefit and had discussed the option with board members.
Swanson could not be reached for comment.
