Man wanted for home invasion, car theft
Schaumburg police are searching for a man they say confronted a woman with a child, forced his way into her babysitter's home and stole her car.
Police said the 42-year-old Rolling Meadows woman was dropping her child off at her babysitter's on the 1400 block of Brownstone Place, near Irving Park and Wise roads in Schaumburg, around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
As the 38-year-old babysitter opened the door, a man forced his way in behind the mother and demanded her car keys.
Authorities said the babysitter was able to get the child inside while the mother fought off the offender. But the offender eventually managed to get her keys and took off in her 2004 silver four-door Chevy Impala.
The car has not yet been recovered. Its Illinois license plate number is 119 1235.
Both the mother and babysitter suffered minor cuts and bruises.
The offender is described as about 45 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 175 pounds with short black hair and was wearing a brown, button-down, short-sleeve shirt and dark pants.
Anyone with information about this case or who thinks they might have seen the offender in the area before or after the incident is asked to call Schaumburg police's crime investigations bureau at (847) 882-3534.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the incident appears to have been isolated.
