Golfing for the cure in Mount Prospect
Thirty-five women from the Country Club Terrace Golf League teed off at the Mount Prospect Golf Course Monday morning to take part in "Rally for the Cure," a breast cancer awareness campaign, sponsored by Golf for Women magazine.
Country Club Terrace is a Mount Prospect neighborhood roughly bounded by Golf Road, Route 83, Maple Street and Weller Creek but not all of the league's players actually live in that area.
This is the sixth consecutive year that the Country Club Terrace group, clad in pink shirts, has participated in this effort, according to organizer Carolyn Erickson of Park Ridge.
On the seventh hole, whoever got closest to the pin after teeing off won a pair of golf shoes, donated by the magazine, Erickson said. In addition, they gave each participant a breast cancer pin, golf towel and a one-year subscription to the magazine.
Since it began in 1996, "Rally for the Cure" has raised more than $28 million in its effort fight this disease.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women ages 35-54, according to program literature, and it also accounts for more than 75 percent of all cancer deaths in women 55 years and older.
Great way to raise money for an important cause while having fun, ladies!
