Briefs: Charity gives food to needy
The Grafton Township Food Pantry will distribute 10,000 pounds of food to families and individuals in need from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Meat, produce, baked goods, nonperishable goods and household cleaning products will be available for needy residents of Grafton Township. The items were bought from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The giveaway will take place at 10109 Vine St. in Huntley. Call (847) 669-3328.
Place to head for a shred
The Corporate America Family Credit Union in Elgin will hold a "Shred Day" for residents to dispose of unwanted personal documents and to increase awareness about identity theft. The event, which also will include games and raffle for a shredder, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2075 Big Timber Road. For details, call (847) 214-2030.
Join summer reading clubs
So far, more than 2,000 people have registered for the Huntley Area Public Library's summer reading programs. You can still sign up by stopping in the library at 11000 Ruth Road or by visiting www.huntleylibrary.org/summer. There are three separate programs for toddlers through fifth-graders, kids in grades six through 12 and adults. This year's theme is medieval times. The programs end Aug. 16. Call (847) 669-5386.
