Woman left kids home alone to go looking for boyfriend, police say
There may be nothing wrong with checking up on a boyfriend who's out for the night at a local bar.
Leaving your 1- and 6-year-old daughters home alone while you do it is another matter.
Police arrested a 27-year-old Lake in the Hills woman early Friday morning on allegations she left her children unsupervised at home for at least 30 minutes while she went out to find her boyfriend.
Randi L. Losch faces two counts of endangering the life or health of a child stemming from the incident, as well as aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer charges alleging she shoved and kicked police officers after her arrest.
Losch, who spent the rest of the early-morning hours in the McHenry County jail, later posted $2,000 to go free pending a June 24 court date.
Lake in the Hills Deputy Police Chief David Brey said officers were sent to Losch's home late Thursday night on a report of possible child endangerment. When they arrived, Brey said, Losch's boyfriend told them he had gone out to a local bar earlier in the night, leaving Losch home with her two children.
About 11 p.m., Brey said, Losch showed up at the bar, first telling her boyfriend she had left a neighbor looking after the kids, then admitting they were home alone. She left soon thereafter, Brey said, leaving her boyfriend with the impression she was going back home.
When he got home about a half-hour later, Brey said, the girls were sleeping in bed and Losch was nowhere in sight.
Police finally found Losch about 12:40 a.m., when a Huntley officer made a traffic stop and found her in someone else's car, Brey said. She was brought back to her home and turned over to Lake in the Hills' custody.
After being taken to the village's police station for processing, Brey said, Losch kicked an officer in the ribs. The officer sought medical treatment but was back on patrol later Friday morning.
The most serious charge against Losch, aggravated battery, is a felony punishable by a maximum two to five years in prison. The other charges are misdemeanors that carry a maximum sentence of one year in jail and $2,500 in fines.
