Dwyer excels in decathlon
Kevin Dwyer, a junior at Miami University Ohio who went to Hersey High School, finished 19th in the 2008 NCAA Decathlon Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ranked 26th at the start of the nationals, Dwyer, who had won the Mid-American Conference decathlon, climbed seven positions during the 10-event program that was held over two days.
Dwyer's performances:
100-meter dash -- 11.34.
Long jump -- 21-6.
Shot put -- 40-4 ¾.
High jump -- 6-6 ¼.
400-meter dash -- 53.78.
110-meter hurdles -- 15.21.
Discus -- 119-3.
Pole vault -- 14-1 ¼.
Javelin -- 185-9.
1,500-meter run -- 5:37.72.
Lattner to Whitewater: Oakton College pitcher and Prospect High graduate Brian Lattner will continue his baseball career at Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Basketball camps: Mike Small, who is in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, will offer his Fundamental and Specialties Basketball Camps at three area sites this summer.
The camps are available for boys and girls in grades 1-8.

Officials class: Registrations will be accepted now for a fall class on becoming a basketball official.
The class will begin Sept. 9 and run for seven weeks, ending Oct. 22 at the Palatine Public Library.
Ed Curtin, a veteran of over 40 years of basketball officiating at all levels and the current Mid-Suburban League assignment chair, will teach the class.
Topics covered will be learning two-person mechanics, gaining confidence, how to move up the ladder, improving your skills in officiating, and pre-season scrimmage officiating.
There will be a new DVD presentation in the class.

Basketball camp: The Northwest Basketball Academy defensive camp at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights will be held June 30 to July 3, and also July 7-11.
The cost is $200.
Boys from 6th to 8th grades will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Girls from 6th to 8th will be from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Probst is member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and he has won more than 600 games. In seven seasons as the McHenry Junior College women's basketball coach, his teams never finished lower than fifth in the nation and led the nation twice in defense.
