Cary band group awards scholarships

The Cary Band Parents Association recently awarded 10 scholarships totaling more than $800 to students at Prairie Hill and Cary Junior High School. Each scholarship may be used for private music lessons or any band camp the student plans to attend. Band directors at each school selected the winners based on student essays.

Two $150 scholarships were awarded to seventh-graders Christina Angle and Lainie Weisman of Cary Jr. High; five $75 scholarships were awarded to sixth-graders Brandon Bell, Alexandra Kroll, Sam SanFilippo, Hannah Topole and Jerome Veit of Prairie Hill; and three $50 scholarships were awarded to fifth-graders Gretchen Price, Sarah Purpura and Mary Ulmanis of Prairie Hill.

CBPA strongly believes in the benefits of music education and the solid foundation it provides children for life-long success culturally, academically and socially.
