Political parties aren't for the people

I have to laugh at many of the letters sent to Fence Post. No matter what the concern is, people continuously blame the Democrats or Republicans - just as if they're rooting for the Cubs or Sox.

People have to realize that either party is bad, and that the two-party system is bad. A party is mainly an ever-growing, money-gathering organization that tries to get into office in order to run the country for their own selfish reasons - usually to appease lobbyists and business (rarely to help the weak and powerless commonwealth).

Politicians are not interested in your welfare; they are only interested in their own welfare, and your vote. They can easily make any promises to you because they are not obliged to carry them out. Many people think they don't even uphold the Constitution.

If you think that either party is better, you'd better think again. Once a party gets in, it's virtually impossible to get them to do what you want, or to even get them out of office.

Yeah, I know, you think you voted in your candidate, but in reality your candidates have already been selected by the parties, and that's why we don't get the best people for the job. When you punish the last bad candidate by voting him out of office, you have enabled a worse candidate from the opposing party to get in.
