Navarrette unfair in Obama criticism
Columnist Ruben Navarrette bemoans Barack Obama's exit from his Trinity Church as being the act of a politician and turning his back on the people who worship there.
How easy it is for people like him to cast his slings and arrows. What would be his choice were he put into the same position?
Who and what causes our electorate to be so color-conscious that Mr. Obama quitting his church because everything said there becomes a stain on his judgment or lack thereof?
Mr. McCain has reinvented himself on almost every issue since becoming the Republican nominee; does he get excoriated by Mr. Navarrette as a politician trying to get elected by pandering to the right wing?
But let Mr. Obama do a simple thing like change churches, and that's as bad a sin against the people of Trinity Church, those poor souls, as the sin of lying the entire country into an unending war in Iraq.
Again I ask, what would Mr. Navarette have done if he were in Obama's shoes, a man who wants to be president of all of America, not just the people of Trinity Church?
