Cougars' offense fizzles

The Kane County Cougars' produced only 3 hits in a 6-1 loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels before 13,993 at Elfstrom Stadium on Saturday. Pitchers Lance Sewell (1-1), Brent Lysander and Brad Hertzler each allowed 2 runs, and Corey Brown's seventh-inning homer represented the Cougars' only run-producing hit.

Sewell allowed 4 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts over 3½ innings.

RailCats drop Flyers: The Schaumburg Flyers pounded out 12 hits and benefited from 4 Gary errors but lost 13-5 to the RailCats at Alexian Field. Gary took the lead in the sixth inning and never looked back.
