Child clinging to life after Fox Lake house fire

Fox Lake fire officials are investigating a fire that left a 2-year-old clinging to life at Loyola University Medical Center with burns over 50 percent of his body.

Police Chief Mike Behan said the fire started in the kitchen of the single-family home at 29 York St. at just after 12:50 p.m. Wednesday.

He said two adults and two juveniles were home with the infant when the fire started. The adults and juveniles were able to get out of the building without injuries. The 2-year-old was pulled from the home by his mother moments after the fire started.

Fox Lake Deputy Fire Chief Dave Becker said investigators are combing through the residence to determine the cause of the blaze.

"The home is uninhabitable, and the investigation is expected to take a couple of days," Becker added.
