Arlington Heights librarians are taking their reference desks outside -- or more specifically to the downtown Jewel at 122 N. Vail Ave. today and Saturday. "People can feel free to ask us anything really," McDonald said. The librarians will be at the Jewel from 2 to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. A $25 gas card will also be given away each day, McDonald said.

Rec center expansion

Schaumburg's Meineke Recreation Center will be expanded slightly to accommodate additional restroom stalls. The project will add two new stalls each for the boys' and girls' restrooms in preschool area of the center at 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Though seemingly a small project, the change will involve adding nine feet to the building's footprint on the property and thus required Schaumburg village approval, which was granted Tuesday. Parks Executive Director Jean Schlinkmann said construction is expected to be done by fall and have no impact on summer programs.
