Authorfest Saturday in Schaumburg

Writers trying to get published and those interested in purchasing autographed books are invited to attend the "Gotta Write" Authorfest Saturday in Schaumburg.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rasmussen Room of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road.

No registration is required for the free mini-conference, which will include many authors participating in panel discussions on a variety of topics related to writing and getting published.

The day will begin with breakfast snacks from 10 to 10:20 a.m., followed by a series of panel discussions.

An autographing and book-purchasing session runs from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

The rest of the event is divided into four panel discussions and an advice session.

"Romance: What's Selling & How to Write It" runs from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Panelists are Sarah Daniel, Patricia Guthrie, Margot Justes, Dana Littlejohn, Ann Macela, Linda Mooney, Annmarie Ortega, Jenna Petersen and Emily Veinglory.

"Secrets to Writing Pulse-Pounding Page-Turning Mysteries" is 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Panelists are Scarlett Dan, Joann Fastoff, Kate Fellowes, Joyce and Jim Lavene, Molly MacRae, Jeff Markowitz, Earl Merkel, Jennie Spallone and Christine Verstraete.

"Power Networking Session: Let's Talk Agents, Publishers, PR Reps" will be from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Panelists are James Durkin, Stacey Klemstein, Sylvester J. Lee II, Rachel Madorsky, Jennifer Stevenson and Smoky Trudeau.

"Web Sites, Blogs, Conferences and All That Jazz," is 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. These panelists will be Peg Herring, Liz Kreger, Morgan Mandel, Jeff Markowitz, Dee Owens, Dr. Naomi Roberson, K. Osborn Sullivan, Lynn Voedisch and Sarah Wisseman.

Veinglory, a fantasy and romance author, will present an advice session on "E-Publishing Romance" from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. She will discuss the reputation and sales volumes of small publishers.

Upcoming concerts: The Schaumburg Township District Library's summer series of outdoor concerts and children's shows has just begun.

Though the first two shows occurred earlier this week, there are several more before the end of the month.

Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band performs from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Monday, with a rain date of Thursday.

All teens are welcome to the second annual Battle of the Bands from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The Ed Coward Band will perform jazz, blues, pop and rock from the '20s through the '90s on June 23.

"Swing Time!" a lively dance and music history presentation, will be performed from 7 to 7:45 p.m. June 24.

Las Guitarras de Espana, or the Guitars of Spain, will perform a mix of Latin, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and African music from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. June 30.
