Littelfuse out as police site
Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia said the city has dropped plans to buy the old Littelfuse headquarters for a new police station. Arredia said Wednesday officials are reviewing sites around the city, including the downtown. There's been no further contact with Littelfuse Inc., 800 E. Northwest Hwy., so the city wants to go in another direction. Arredia also put to rest rumors the city was interested in moving the famous Choo Choo Restaurant, at 600 Lee St. near city hall, to make way for a new police station. "I don't know where that's coming from," he said. Aldermen in this year's budget have $10 million set aside to replace the city's 33-year-old police headquarters adjacent to city hall, 1420 Miner St.
Long Grove bicyclist hurt
A Long Grove resident on a bicycle was hit Saturday. The woman was crossing the road around 4:30 p.m. from the forest preserve bike path at Checker Road and Country Club Drive. A car eastbound on Checker hit her; that driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions, according to the Lake County sheriff's police. The bicyclist was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. At the Long Grove village board meeting Tuesday, President Maria Rodriguez said the village will ask the Lake County Forest Preserve to trim back bushes and increase signage to prevent accidents in the area.
