House fire proves tough to snuff in Bensenville

Bensenville firefighters had a case of déjà vu Wednesday, visiting the same home and fighting the same fire twice in a matter of hours.

Lt. Ron Lofton said firefighters from Bensenville and four surrounding towns were called to a fire in the home at 307 George St. about 12:15 p.m..

He said they worked for nearly three hours to extinguish the blaze that originated from the home's enclosed rear porch.

Nearly two hours later, as the board-up service was securing the windows, Lofton said, the fire rekindled.

"We thoroughly check out every situation but sometimes we come across a wall or enclosed space that we can't see with our thermal-imaging cameras," he said. "So this one rekindled in a hot spot in the wall that we didn't see the first time."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Lofton said one young male was home at the time of the fire but escaped uninjured.
