Dryer fire causes $10,000 damage to Naperville home
A fire in the laundry room of a Naperville house caused more than $10,000 damage Wednesday morning, but all four residents escaped unharmed.
Assistant Fire Chief Richard Mikel said firefighters responded just after 10 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a fire in the house at 3407 White Eagle Drive.
"When we got there, the resident was doing a pretty good job containing the fire with his garden hose," Mikel said. "We finished it off, though, and made sure there was nothing smoldering behind the walls or anything."
Mikel said the accidental fire was caused by the family's dryer.
"The fire was pretty much contained to that dryer," he said, "so we're empathizing the importance of keeping those machines maintained and lint traps clean."
A building inspector from Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development Department determined the family could continue to occupy the house.
