Huntley man gets jail time for festival brawl

A 19-year-old Huntley man was sentenced Monday to 40 days in the McHenry County jail after pleading guilty to a reduced charge stemming from a brawl last year at Lake in the Hills' Summer Sunset Festival.

Alfonso Dorado must also serve 24 months' probation as part of his plea bargain in which he admitted beating a 20-year-old Chicago man during the Aug. 31 altercation.

Authorities initially charged Dorado with aggravated battery, a felony, for his role in the incident but reduced the charge to misdemeanor battery as part of plea negotiations.

A co-defendant, Edgar Herrera, 18, of Carpentersville, still faces an aggravated battery charge alleging he along with Dorado repeatedly punched Steven Rodriguez in the face in a fight authorities said was motivated by gang affiliations.

Rodriguez was sentenced to 30 days in jail in January after pleading guilty to an unlawful use of weapons charge for having a concealed handgun in his possession at the time of the fight. Rodriguez was not accused of taking out his gun during the altercation.
