Watch speed in Arlington
The Arlington Heights Police Department is conducting a speed enforcement program now through June 28. Officers are targeting speeders, mostly during the morning and evening rush hours. Four intersections are getting special attention: Algonquin and Arlington Heights roads; Palatine and Rand roads; Palatine and Arlington Heights roads and Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue. Similar campaigns conducted between April 6 and May 31 netted 672 citations for speeding and nine for other vehicle code violations.
Police promote bike safety
The Buffalo Grove police will conduct a Summertime Good Bike Rider program in June, July and August. The police will partner with Buffalo Grove Pantry, 7-11 store and the Rotary Club, and officers who see young people demonstrating safe bike riding will present the rider with a coupon for a free fountain drink. The winners also will be entered in a drawing for a new bike donated by the Rotary Club. For details call the police at (847) 459-2560.
Mark Flag Day with picnic
Hoffman Estates and the Schaumburg Barn are inviting residents to a Flag Day picnic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Schaumburg Municipal Center Plaza, 101 Schaumburg Court. Admission is $3. The program includes a visit by Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson and Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, a speech by Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn and a flag-hoisting ceremony with color guard, music, food and bingo. Attendees are asked to carpool to this event if possible as parking will be limited due to construction.
