Man sought in Schaumburg carjacking
Schaumburg police are looking for a man who knocked a woman to the ground in a drugstore parking lot, grabbed her keys and took off in her car.
The reported carjacking occurred about noon Wednesday in front of the CVS Pharmacy at 1855 W. Irving Park Road.
The man walked up behind the woman just after she put her purse and purchases on the passenger seat.
He struck her on the base of her neck, wrestled the car keys from her and got into her 2003 Ford Escape, according to reports.
The victim pounded on a window and grabbed a door handle, but the man sped off and last was seen driving east on Irving Park Road.
He was described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds with short curly hair and was wearing a light-colored T-shirt and dark-colored baseball hat and pants.
The victim told police she'd just withdrawn money from a Hanover Park bank before driving to CVS. She said she saw the man sitting on stairs outside the pharmacy when she left the store but did not see him approach her.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the likelihood of the man still possessing the car depends on his reasons for taking it -- whether for transportation to leave the area or to steal the parts or contents.
Nebl said carjackings are rare in general and even rarer in Schaumburg.
The total value of the car and its contents is estimated at $11,590.
