Six-vehicle pileup stalls Edens' rush-hour traffic, injures four
A crash involving four semitractor trailers and two sedans at the Edens Expressway Spur near Northbrook injured four -- at least one seriously -- and snarled evening rush-hour traffic Wednesday.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Allison Renaud said the crash occurred at about 4:25 p.m. in the eastbound lanes.
Two trucks jackknifed on the roadway and two Toyota Corollas, one a 1990 model and the other a 2003 model, were damaged.
Helicopters airlifted the injured to three hospitals -- Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, Highland Park in Highland Park and Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview.
The most seriously injured was a man driving one of the trucks, Renaud said, adding she did not have information about his injuries.
As of 9 p.m., only one eastbound lane was open but westbound lanes were clear.
Renaud said first responders received a scare when they arrived on the scene and saw what one truck had spilled.
"We thought it was hazmat (hazardous materials). But it's just mustard, thankfully," Renaud said.
