Parent/child Golf Tourney: Register by June 6. 1-3 p.m. June 14, Grayslake Golf Course, 2150 Drury Lane, Grayslake. Parent/Child (8-14yrs) Teams of a parent and a child ages 8 to 14 compete in a handicap tournament, with additional contests including a yellow ball contest, closest to the pin, longest putt, and a special junior challenge. Ela Soccer Club Recreation Soccer Registration: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 7 at Dicks Sporting Goods, 21830 W. Long Grove Road, Deer Park. Fall 2008: U7-U14 one game per week on Saturday and one or two practices per week. Uniforms $50. Fishing Derby: 8-10:30 a.m. June 7, Bevier Park, 2255 Yorkhouse Road, Waukegan. The pond will be stocked with over 700 pounds of catfish. Participants try to catch the longest fish in their age category; the top three in each category receive prizes and certificates. The angler who catches the albino catfish also receives a prize. Preregistering at the Belvidere Recreation Center or the Field House at Hinkston Park by June 6 to get the best spots on the pond. Check-in for preregistered fishers begins at 7 a.m. On-site registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $3 for preregistration, $5 for on-site registration.

Girls basketball camp: In the gym of Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills Vernon Hills High School will offer Cougar Camp 2008 Girls Basketball Skills and Games Camp.

Session I will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, June 8 to 26, for ninth- through 12th-graders. The fee is $190.

Session II be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. for third- through fifth-graders and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for sixth- through eighth-graders, on Thursdays, July 7 to 17. The fee is $90.

X-Games Medalist Matt Wilhelm: 1-2 p.m. June 8, Indian Trails Public Library District, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. Chicago White Sox Training Center: Register by June 9. 8:30-11 a.m. June 23-27, Aquatic Softball Field, 250 Library Lane Grayslake (rain location: Grayslake Central High School small gym). STC-LS (Little Sluggers) is open to boys and girls ages 5 and 6; STC-1 is for ages 7-12; STC-2 is for ages 10-14 (10-12-year-old campers must have completed or be currently enrolled in STC-1, or play for a traveling team). Each camper will receive a pair of tickets to three White Sox games, a Training Center hat and a Training Center T-shirt. Bears football camps: Chicago Bears Youth Football Camps will be offered in June and July. The camps are non-contact day camps for young people ages 6 to 14 intended to teach athletic, football and life skills for young athletes. Local camps include the following:

Each camp maintains a 10-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio. First-aid trained staff and an athletic trainer are available at all camps to ensure a safe and healthy experience.
