Exercise, arthritis workshop June 10

Wheeling Township and State Rep. Sidney Mathias will host an exercise and arthritis workshop from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 10 at the Wheeling Township Community Center, 1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. The workshop will include a panel discussion with a rheumatologist, physical therapist and an exercise specialist. Farmers' Market opens Sunday

The Mount Prospect Lions Club Farmers' Market will open for its eighth year June 8 at the west Metra Train Station parking lot in downtown Mount Prospect, Route 83 Elmhurst Road and Northwest Highway. The market runs into October depending upon customer demand and vendor availability. Market hours will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays. Money raised from the Farmers' Market is donated to local charities.

The market will feature six farm vendors, and 18 craft and home produce vendors. The Mount Prospect Lions Club will be collecting used eyeglasses, cell phones, and ink printer cartridges for recycling. Call (847) 682-0880, or visit www.MtProspectLions.com.

Help needed to clean up Salt Creek

Salt Creek Watershed Network and Friends of Critters and Salt Creek will sponsor their Salt Creek cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon June 7. Meet at Elk Grove High School, along the creek. The project includes cleaning up man made debris in and around Salt Creek.

Volunteers will be provided garbage bags, gloves and pick up sticks to use. Dress for the weather and possible muddy conditions. Waders and or canoes especially welcomed.

Carpentry career info at open house

The Chicago Carpenters Training Center is hosting an open house for those interested in a career in carpentry from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7 at the Chicago the Chicago Carpenter's Training Center, 1256 Estes Blvd., Elk Grove Village.

Various specialties will be featured as roofing, siding, insulation and flooring. The latest in tools and technology will be featured. Admission is free. Bilingual teachers will be on hand to explain how to apply for this free education and career opportunity. DP sticker deadline is June 30

Vehicle and pet stickers for 2008-2009 for Des Plaines residents are now on sale at City Hall, 1420 Miner St., as well as at various currency exchanges. All owners who have vehicles registered in Des Plaines or have vehicles stored in the city are required to purchase and display a current Des Plaines vehicle sticker. This includes leased vehicles, company cars and vehicles registered to a Des Plaines address but housed in another town (i.e., college, military) should they be used on city streets.

The last day to purchase vehicle stickers at the regular rate is June 30. During the month of July stickers are an additional $10, and beginning Aug. 1, full late fees are in effect. Call (847) 391-5319 or stop by City Hall for an application.
