Ex-football player sentenced for home invasion

A former Harper College football player was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to home invasion.

Shamar McGee, who is listed on Harper's 2007 football roster as a freshman defensive back, burglarized a residence in Schaumburg in September and in Rolling Meadows in November, prosecutors said.

In the Schaumburg burglary, a victim was at home and McGee did not take anything, prosecutors said.

In the Rolling Meadows burglary, McGee and two other teens stole a DVD player, video game system, television and desktop computer, police said.

Quinton Thurman and Andrew C. Kelly also were charged with residential burglary in the Rolling Meadows heist. Kelly pleaded guilty in March and received three years in prison. Thurman has another court date later this month.

McGee was a two-way football standout at Richards High School in Oak Lawn.
