Briefs: 18 years for sex assault

A Schaumburg man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Monday for sexually assaulting a relative who was younger than 13 at the time. Fermin Munoz, 29, of the 1500 block of Valley Lake Drive, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual assault at the Rolling Meadow courthouse. He had been accused of assaulting the girl in her Hoffman Estates home between 2002 and 2004 and again in 2006, said Andrew Conklin, a Cook County state's attorney's office spokesman. After the encounters were reported, Hoffman Estates police arrested Munoz on Oct 30, Conklin said.
