Development was passed too easily

To the editor: Once again, the mayor and village trustees ignored the residents and professionals of the village of Mount Prospect, "Where Friendliness is a Way of Life."

The village board heard the petition for the project in the Mount Prospect TIF triangle last week. Once again, the concerns and requests of adjacent condo owners, new and long-time residents were ignored. They requested the trustees to reconsider the proposed development of the high rise condominiums, restaurants and retail store development that will affect their village.

It was evident that there was some preliminary input from the mayor and village staff to the developer of the project. The final proposal reflects their input on the design of the buildings and their waiver of some of the on-site parking requirements that are required by the village ordinance.

The architect on the village planning and zoning commission had rejected the proposal for the development. Also, long-time residents of the village, including architects and city planners raised objections to the development to no avail. Efforts to table the vote, until further analysis could be made on the viability of the proposal, were made by many village residents.

In spite of some of the trustees alleging that this was not a done deal, it was obvious that the mayor acknowledged certain people in the audience by their first name, who spoke out in favor of the project design. These people proclaimed that they had no problems with the project or the parking.

Has Mount Prospect become an urban extension of Chicago, where Mayor Daley gets his cronies lined up in favor of what he wants done in spite of the residents' concerns?
