Top PBA seniors in Arlington Heights this weekend
Bill Spigner of Vernon Hills will defend his title as 96 senior professional bowlers convene in Arlington Heights for the Beverly Lanes PBA Midwest Senior Open on Friday.
Spigner won the 2007 tournament with games of 277 and 299.
This year's tournament begins with an afternoon practice on Friday, followed by pro-am teams at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Junior and adult bowlers with a certified league average may compete with the pros in this doubles event.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the pros return for eight games of qualifying action. The top 16 bowlers will advance to match play elimination finals at 10 a.m. Sunday. The title match is expected to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Other entrants include Tim Kauble of Marion, Ohio, who won the tournament in 2002 and 2005, along with 2006 winner Chuck Halfpap of Arlington Heights, and Jerry Edwards of Wood Dale, the 2001 champ and a three-time second-place finisher.
"We moved the dates of our event to better accommodate the Senior Masters and Senior U.S. Open taking place later in June," said Les Zikes, longtime proprietor of Beverly Lanes and a member of the USBC Hall of Fame.
