Library Square condo project resumes after two-year break

After more than a two-year break, work has begun again on the Library Square condominium project near the Arlington Heights Memorial Library.

Back in early 2006, developers broke ground on the $3 million project at the southeast corner of Euclid and Dunton avenues, across from the library.

Construction resumed a couple of weeks ago, although it's not clear when it will be finished, said village inspection services supervisor Chuck Kobus.

The project will have four, 2,800-square-foot units, each with three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a two-car garage. There will also be four rooftop decks that will be separated by small walls.

Each unit will cost about $828,000, the developer said in 2006.

Extra police on the roads: The Arlington Heights Police Department was given a $27,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation for increased patrol watches for the next week or so.

The grant started on Memorial Day weekend and will continue though June 1. The money is used to pay police officers overtime to conduct the patrols.

Police will conduct roadside safety checkpoints for those not wearing seat belts and drunk driving. The focus of the grant is to reduce personal injury and fatal traffic accidents through traffic law enforcement.

Silent ride: To honor those cyclists who've lost their lives on the road, members of the Arlington Heights Bicycle Association joined the international "Ride of Silence" last week at Recreation Park. The event honored those who have been injured or killed while bicycling on public roadways. The "Ride of Silence" was a free ride where cyclists rode no faster than 12 mph and remained silent the whole time, said Gary Gilbert, of the Arlington Heights Bicycle Association.

There was no brochure, no sponsors, no registration fees and no T-shirt.
