Heartland Voices to perform in Schaumburg
Heartland Voices will present "From Colombia to Canada-eh!" at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, 822 S. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg.
These concerts include musical selections from South America, the United States and Canada. A member of Heartland Voices and native of Colombia, South America, Gary Rubio suggested several folk and native songs from his country.
The United States features the music of Eric Whitacre, Moses Hogan, Stephen Foster, Randall Thompson and a Minnesota composer, Timothy C. Takach, a native of Barrington.
Takach was commissioned by Heartland Voices to write a work for the ninth season. He composed a work titled "To Live Forever," based on text from Frances Hodges Burnett's "The Secret Garden," which will be given its world premiere during these performances.
A reception for Takach takes place after this performance.
A final highlight of these concerts is the performance of Randall Thompson's "The Testament of Freedom," an inspirational choral work with text taken from several writings by Thomas Jefferson.
Heartland Voices has two gifted narrators speak Jefferson's words before they are sung. Schaumburg Village President Al Larson will be the guest narrator June 1, and Elgin Community College President Dr. David Sam had the honors May 17 in Elgin.
