Raue Center introduces scholarship, workshops
Raue Center for the Arts, Crystal Lake, has announced a groundbreaking scholarship initiative thanks to the support of the Foglia Family Foundation.
For the next five years, all Sage Studio classes offered at Raue Center will have a tuition cost of $100 per student. The Foglia Family Foundation has subsidized 70 percent of the full-price tuition cost per student.
With the launch of the Sage Studio scholarship initiative, Raue Center's educational programming has become accessible to an ever-broadening community and audience. There are more than 200 affordable tuition options available to the public.
Additional seed funding of the Sage Studio program has been provided by Susen H. and James C. Berg, longtime supporters of Raue Center.
Sage Studio is a collection of educational classes for all ages featuring workshops in theater, film and acting.
• Theatre Camp will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, June 30-July 18 for ages 11 to 18. Application deadline is June 15.
The Sage Studio Theatre Camp is an intensive three-week course with an emphasis on building ensemble unity, individual acting development, vocal enhancement and stage movement. A final showcase will be presented at the end of the three weeks that is created by the students and their instructors. Participants will write, act and direct. They will take classes and have an opportunity to explore their own vision in a creative, supportive environment.
• Film Bootcamp is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22-28 for ages 15 years or older.
The new application deadline is June 5.
Raue Center's seven-day intensive film workshop, taught by Daniel and Tom Stern, breaks down the filmmaking process by allowing each student to specialize in directing, writing or cinematography as well as perform on-set jobs in workshops and in the mentored production of short films written, directed and shot by students.
• Acting on Camera Workshop: Exploring Your Persona is set from noon to 5 p.m. June 21 for children ages 13 to 17. A workshop for adults is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. June 22.
Application deadline is June 5.
The workshop is valuable for students, teachers, business people, speakers and anyone looking to improve the skill of spontaneity. This workshop uses simple exercises to help students explore nuances of intention, voice and body language, even optimal wardrobe colors.
Through highly individualized feedback from Emmy Award-winning actress Elaine Bromka, with 30 years experience in film, television, Broadway and off-Broadway, students learn how best to communicate with freedom and energy while having fun.
