Seals supporters try to silence

It happened again: Supporters of Democratic hopeful Dan Seals have torn down my third Re-Elect Congressman Mark Kirk sign.

They tore down one of my neighbor's signs, too.

And they did the same thing in their failed 2006 bid against U.S. Congressman Mark Kirk.

Many of Seals' supporters belong to those who talk a lot about free speech until it comes to protecting speech that criticizes their guy and his sacred cows.

During the last election, for instance, they kept crying "Foul!" when many of us pointed out how Seals called for Israelis to leave Lebanon almost immediately after they went after the Hezbollah terrorists who kidnapped their citizens -- and had the video evidence to prove it.

Perhaps Seals is taking direction from the man he calls his role model, Barack Obama, who complained that ABC should have censored itself in the last Democratic debate.

The fact is that these would-be arbiters of political correctness cannot restrict free speech, and they better learn how to confront the issues their opponents raise.

If Obama cannot handle ABC, we can only wonder how in the world he will handle Iran?

If Seals cannot handle support for his opponent, how well do we think he will represent them if he ends up in Washington?

On the other hand, upon his 2006 victory, Mark Kirk made a point of telling his supporters that he represents all the people of the Tenth District, whether they voted for him or not.

And so we will just keep putting up more signs to show our pride in having the best representation in the U.S. Congress, no matter how many they tear down.
