Cops: C'Ville woman orchestrated bomb threat to get day off work
Glenda Williams probably just should have called in sick.
Instead, police say, the 18-year-old Carpentersville woman had a friend phone in a bomb threat to her employer last month so she could have the day off.
Now, instead of having just one day away from the daily grind, Williams is out of a job and facing a pair of felony charges that could land her in prison for up to five years.
Authorities Friday charged Williams, of 114 Woodland Court, Apt. 2A, with disorderly conduct and solicitation in connection with a April 25 threat to Follett Library Services' headquarters in McHenry.
The charges, both Class 3 felonies, allege Williams asked friend Jerrod Smith to call the business and claim there was a bomb hidden in the facility at 1340 Ridgeview Drive and it would endanger lives inside if it exploded.
The call, left on a voice mail on a Friday after normal work hours, was not received until the following Monday, said Follett spokesman Tom Kline.
"It was pretty clear by that point that it was a hoax," he said.
McHenry police traced the phone call back to Williams and Smith, Deputy Chief William Brogan said Friday.
"She was an employee there and she wanted a day off," Brogan said. "She is no longer an employee there."
Smith, 18, of South suburban Crest Hill, faces a single disorderly conduct charge for his alleged involvement, police said.
A judge issued $10,000 arrest warrants for both suspects Friday morning.
Williams could not be reached for comment. A phone number listed in court documents was not accepting calls.
