Police release more details in case against Des Plaines teen
Mount Prospect police Tuesday provided a fuller account of an incident last week where a 17-year-old Des Plaines resident was charged with stealing a sport utility vehicle, then smashing into an unmarked police car and a cement barrier.
Jose Segovia, of 524 N. 6th Ave., was charged with aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, theft of motor vehicle and no valid driver's license. A 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old boy, both of Mount Prospect, who were passengers are in juvenile court on charges of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated battery and resisting arrest, police said.
Police gave this account:
About 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a Prospect Heights police officer found a black 2000 Dodge Durango in Euclid Plaza, 403 E. Euclid Ave., in Mount Prospect. The vehicle had been reported as stolen from a Mount Prospect residence on Wednesday.
When detectives approached the vehicle and they identified themselves as police officers, Segovia hit the gas and fled the parking lot.
Exiting the lot, the SUV struck an unmarked Mount Prospect police car. Segovia continued east on Euclid Avenue and pulled into a BP Amoco gas station, 1625 E. Euclid Ave., where he struck a cement barrier, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Segovia and the other teens were apprehended by officers after a short chase
Segovia, whose bond was set at $35,000, is to appear in court at 9 a.m. May 28.
