Intersection closes today
The intersection of Emerson Street and Busse Avenue in Mount Prospect will close today so contractors can install utilities and various streetscape features. The intersection is expected to be closed for up to three weeks, village official said. Nearby parking garages and businesses will remain open. Alternate routes around the intersection will allow drivers to get to their destinations. The work is part of streetscape enhancements in the downtown area. This downtown "facelift" includes new, wider sidewalks with brick pavers, landscaping, pedestrian lighting and benches, as well as infrastructure improvements.
Poppy Days coming
The annual Veterans Poppy Days solicitation will be held Friday and Saturday at various locations in Arlington Heights, with 100 percent of funds collected used for direct assistance to military veterans and their families. Funds are used to support local vets in need, disabled vets at area veterans hospitals and to purchase medical equipment not funded because of federal budget limitations for local VA hospitals.
