Edward Hospital notes

Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville, will offer the following classes, programs and events. Classes are at Edward, unless noted otherwise.

First aid: This American Heart Association class Wednesday teaches participants to recognize and care for victims of sudden illness and injuries.

Students practice skills related to bleeding, shock, poisoning and heart-related illness. Those who successfully complete the class receive a certification card valid for two years.

Heartsaver: An American Heart Association class designed for the non-health care person who requires certification for their workplace meets May 24.

The class covers choking, rescue breathing and one-person rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants. The course also includes training and practice on the use of an automated external defibrillator and practice of first aid skills.

Participants who successfully complete the skills and written tests will be awarded a Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid certification card valid for two years.

Loss support: SHARE, a support group for couples who have experienced an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death, and Sharing Hope, a support group for couples who have experienced such a loss and are pregnant or considering pregnancy, meet May 27 at Edward Education Center. CPR class: This American Heart Association class May 29 at Edward Hospital covers choking, rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation for infants, children and adults.

Participants will be taught how to determine the type of assistance someone might need and the most effective way of assisting.

Eating disorders: Linden Oaks at Edward's eating disorders program hosts its monthly Recovery Night at 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 2 on the campus of Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville. Free. Info: (630) 305-5000.

Skin cancer: Learn how to protect against skin cancer at "Sun safety for the entire family" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 5 at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville. Register: (630) 527-6363.

Participants will be taught how to determine the type of assistance someone might need and the most effective way of assisting.

Kids fitness camp: Kamp Fit-To-Go for ages 5 to 11 offers martial arts, dance, tumbling, swimming, imagination time and weekly trips. Kids can attend for a day, a week or the summer.

The camp is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 9 to Aug. 15, at Edward Health & fitness Center at Seven Bridges, 6600 S. Route 53, Woodridge.

The weekly cost is $125 for fitness center members, $175 for nonmembers. Before Kamp Care is available from 7 to 9 a.m. and After Kamp Care from 4 to 6 p.m. for an additional cost. Register: (630) 646-7913.

Camp Hope: Children ages 5 to 12 who have a parent or loved one facing cancer are invited to Camp Hope, a week-long summer camp. Sessions are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 23-27 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4-8 at Edward Health & Fitness Center, 6600 S. Route 53, Woodridge. Child care also is available before and after camp from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at no cost to Camp Hope kids. Register: (630) 527-6363.
