Wrap: Mustangs' Walliser jacks 2 homers, drives in seven

Jack was jacking 'em Tuesday.

Jack Walliser hit a grand slam and 3-run homer, and Dillon Smith also homered twice, as Mundelein's baseball team crushed host Waukegan 13-2 in nonconference action.

Mundelein (24-3) got doubles from Justin Piasecki, Brad Medina and Mark VanderVennet.

Jay Mueller picked up the win.

Grayslake North 12, Round Lake 0: Grayslake North had its hitting shoes on.

Jordan Field and Clay Henricksen both homered and drove in three runs, as the Knights pounded out 12 hits in the nonconference game, which lasted five innings.

Jim Butler went 3-for-3 with a triple and 2 RBI for Grayslake North (9-15). The Knights got 2 hits apiece from winning pitcher Nick Harrington, Field and Henricksen. Harrington and Henricksen also had triples.

Harrington (2-2) pitched 4 innings, striking out 10 and allowing 2 hits. Jason Denikas tossed a hitless fifth, striking out a pair.

Softball

Grayslake N. 13, CL Central 1: Cassie Johnson and Mindy Runge both went 3-for-3 for the visiting Knights in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game.

Hilary Kuhl was 2-for-2 for Grayslake North (10-15, 6-7), which won in five innings. Johnson, Kuhl and Carly Borders all doubled.

Sam Myers earned the win.

Grayslake C. 11, Round Lake 3: Monika Wedick struck out 13 batters, didn't walk one and allowed only 1 earned run in 7 innings, as the Rams captured the nonconference game.

Kelly Silver was 4-for-5 for Grayslake Central, which received 3 hits apiece from Alison Johnson and Abbie Goetsch. Goetsch had a homer, triple and 5 RBI.

Wedick helped her own cause with a double and single and an RBI. Tory Dohm also had 2 hits, including a triple, and Mary Karol contributed a single, double and RBI.

For Round Lake, Karla Muldowney and Kelsey Crecchio had doubles.

Girls soccer

R-B 3, Antioch 2: At Marian Central, 13th-seeded Richmond-Burton stunned No. 4 Antioch in the team's Class AA regional semifinal.

Kia Miller scored both goals for Antioch (11-5-2). Her second tally, in the 75th minute, evened the score at 2-2. But the Rockets answered in the next minute.

All the scoring was done in the second half.

Christine Kwilosz assisted on Miller's first goal.

Richmond-Burton advances to Friday's 4 p.m. regional final and will play the winner of today's game between No. 6 Marian Central and No. 12 McHenry.
